Following the national consultations that were held during the Grenelle Environment Forum from 2007 to 2008 and that involved all French players in the sector of renewable energy, France implemented an ambitious strategy for the deployment of renewable energy and the management of energy consumption. The strategy aims at increasing the annual production of renewable energy by 20 million tonnes oil equivalent (Mtep) in order to lift its share in final energy consumption to at least 23 % by 2020, the forecasted total production being at least 32 Mtep.

Commission adopts four ecodesign regulations that will save the equivalent power consumption of Austria and Sweden

The European Commission adopted today four ecodesign regulations 1 to improve the energy efficiency of industrial motors, circulators, televisions, refrigerators and freezers. The regulations lay down energy efficiency requirements which will save about 190 TWh per year by 2020, which is comparable to the combined annual electricity consumption of Sweden and Austria

Short term energy outlook

Although spot crude oil prices continue to fluctuate on a daily basis, EIA´s projections for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil spot prices have remained relatively stable over the last 4 Outlooks. EIA expects WTI prices to average above $80 per barrel this spring, rising to an average of about $82 per barrel by the end of the year and to $85 per barrel by the end of 2011.
